Team
Development
Team performance
is critical to the successful operation of any organisation. Regardless
of the team setting, understanding and appreciating
similarities and differences in the personalities of team members
can help improve overall performance.
At Vitae Consulting
we use the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as the main facilitation
tool. The MBTI is used world wide to help develop teams in various
settings. It is non-threatening in its approach. Through the MBTI
individuals will gain a greater self-understanding thus leading
to a great awareness of their performance within a team.
The needs for
each team will vary and the focus on each course will be different
dependent on the clients needs. Areas that are traditionally focussed
on using the MBTI are decision-making, communication style, influencing
skills and goal setting. Regardless of the focus team development
using MBTI will help to improve the effectiveness of teams by helping
to:
- Identify a
team's strengths and resources, as well as it's potential weaknesses.
- Maximise the natural advantages that result from the similarities
and differences of each team member.
- Work around, understand and focus on minimising your potential
weak spots.
- Identify an action plan with specific behaviours to help you improve
the effectiveness of the team.
Typically the
team development course would be of 1-day duration. Each participant
would be required to complete pre-work which would take approximately
45 minutes. A follow up half day session could also be facilitated.
It is recommended that there would be at least 1 month between the
initial team building day and the follow up session.
